Save Greater Dowses Beach activists to hold a “Summit” on January 27 – open to the public

Save Greater Dowses Beach activists are inviting guest speakers and the general public to discuss offshore wind projects.

As you may recall, last year your FHMNA Board formed a partnership with the Osterville Village Association and the Save Greater Dowses Beach (SGDB) group who are facing similar challenges to our respective opposition to the onboarding of offshore wind developer’s high voltage power cables beneath our beaches, parks, streets and through our densely populated residential communities. While these challenges are not identical, they mirror ours in many ways.

On Saturday, January 27th, 2024 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, SGDB will host a “Close To The Wind” Summit at the Hyannis Conference Center (see flyer below) which will specifically address, amongst other issues, the need for a well-planned approach for power transmission and grid interconnection, resulting in cost savings and hopefully a reduction in the number of shoreside onboarding locations.

A number of Cape and Massachusetts political representatives have been invited and are expected to attend. Various guest speakers have also been invited, including our FHMNA President Dave Buzanoski who will address the SouthCoast Wind project in Falmouth as well as our support for SGDB’s efforts.

We feel this is a very important event, especially in view of the timing in that the wind developers must submit their renewed bids by January 31, 2024 for the Massachusetts (also Connecticut and Rhode Island) request for proposals to provide clean, wind generated energy.

We strongly encourage FHMNA members to register in advance to attend this Summit, to lend support to SGDB’s efforts in opposition to the high voltage cable invasion of Cape Cod’s residential beaches, and to perhaps take away additional information which we might employ in our effort to stop the industrialization of our shoreline in Falmouth, a national and state treasure.
