On March 9, 2022, the Falmouth Energy Committee (FEC) met and decided not to make a recommendation regarding Mayflower Windâs Project and not to address the project it at this Aprilâs annual town meeting. Yet, they have concerns regarding the miles of cables to be installed and will be inquiring about cable coordination/consolidation across the entire wind lease area. Traffic disruptions are also a concern of the FEC.
In addition, the FEC will be contacting Barnstable regarding their ongoing experience at Covellâs Beach Parking Lot which is serving as a Vineyard Wind drilling site.
An Energy Committee member forwarded to FHMNA Mayflower Windâs zoning exemption petitioned: DPU 21-143: “Construct and Operate New Transmission Facilities for the Delivery of Energy from an Offshore Wind Energy Generation Resource Located in Federal Waters to the Reginal Transmission System in the Town of Falmouth”.
This petition is similar to, but different than, the Zoning exemption request FHMNA published on 12/13/21: DPU 21-142
DPU 21-142 is a 507 page petition for âExemptions from the Operation of the Zoning Bylaw of the Town of Falmouthâ. DPU 21-143 is a 12 page petition âFor Authority to Construct and Operate New Transmission Facilitiesâ.
Both DPU 21-142 and 21-143 will be considered by the State at their Adjudication and Public Comment Hearing on March 24 (See our recent article to members and posted on our website for the Zoom link and other ways to comment).
The Falmouth Energy Committee is in favor of renewable energy and opposed to the use of fossil fuels.
