As previously reported, in January 2024 FHMNA participated in the “Close to the Wind” summit in Hyannis which was sponsored by our coalition partner the “Save Dowses Beach” group. This was a very well organized event summarizing various aspects of the offshore wind generation projects affecting the south shore of Cape Cod, as well as elsewhere.
The Summit was separated into two parts: the “offshore side” and the “onshore side”. In keeping with our member polling mandate of 2020 FHMNA’s members, our participation was only on the “onshore side” encompassing the onboarding of 1200mw cables in our community and the related construction of a substation, etc.
When reporting on the Summit in January on February 1, we had encouraged members to take the time to view the recorded Summit on YouTube, and had especially pointed out several very eye opening presentations in the offshore part. One of these presentations
was made by the NEFSA (the New England Fisherman’s Stewardship Association) in which they discussed at length the biological and environmental impact on our ocean waters specifically as related to the fishing industry and to our world renown seafood stocks.
In our opinion, this presentation is well worthwhile listening to, and along this line, we are fortunate that NEFSA have agreed to make this presentation to the public in Falmouth on Sunday June 30th as per the attached flier, and as below.
