Once again, Mary Jo Bradley, volunteer organizer, and her team (FHMNA Board member Dave Buzanowski and volunteer Greg Mazmanian), put together a successful cleanup day in the Heights and Maravista.
Over 40 people volunteered. FHMNA provided breakfast, gloves, t-shirts and grabbers. The Falmouth DPW, in conjunction with the Town Annual Spring Clean Up Week, provided large garbage bags which they later picked up. Volunteers were organized into 4 teams covering lower Maravista, Worcester Ct/Ave, the Heights beach and bluff, and the remaining parks in the Heigths (Crown, Kite, Chapel, Crescent and Deacons Park along Falmouth Inner Harbor).
There was much less trash than in the prior 2 years. Although there were no syringes, there were many ubiquitous nip bottles, beer and liquor bottles, doggie poop bags, glasses and cups, cigarette butts and even a street sign. Two interesting very old items, which we may have missed last year, were old flash cubes on the bluff and, at the top of the ball field behind the batting cage, a very large piece of wood with fencing attached which may have been used to smooth the infield before and during games.
A hearty THANK YOU to all the volunteers for helping to keep our neighborhoods beautiful.
