Expect Brief Water Disruptions As Hydrants Are Flushed
Flushing was started in Woods Hole last week and will continue to downtown Falmouth starting 5/10/2021. Follow this link for DPW weekly Water Department updates to inform customers where it will be flushing the following week.
DPW announcement per the Falmouth Enterprise on 5/6/2021:
“Residents may experience brief periods of low water pressure and discoloration as the town begins the annual task of flushing the fire hydrants. Falmouth Water Superintendent Cathal O’Brien said he wants to flush every hydrant, if time allows. There are 3,000 hydrants in Falmouth.
“We want fresh water to customers and make sure they are operational for the fire department,” he said.
The maintenance rids the system of old water and cleans out the cast iron main lines, he said.
The flushing began Sunday night, May 2, on the Woods Hole peninsula including Pumping House Road, down Palmer Avenue to Sippewissett Road, to the intersection of Quissett and Oyster Pond roads. Work continues to areas adjacent to Woods Hole.
Falmouth Heights neighborhood is next, following by the south coast peninsulas, where there are a lot of dead ends down the long roads of Maravista Avenue and Acapesket Road, Mr. O’Brien said.”
