August 18, 2024 Asics Falmouth Road Race Comments From Falmouth Heights – Maravista Neighborhood Association Members

Raymond Street –
I think the Road Race is run very well and we have no complaints in regards to our street. There are many cars that park on our street during the race, but the Road Race is such a great event in Falmouth, that it’s a small sacrifice for one day.

Worcester Court –
The sitting traffic leaving the race did not allow ambulances to get through-a problem every year.

No cell service without WiFi from Worcester Court area to finish line.
Non-residents are still parking on private property and refusing to leave.

They did a great job cleaning up quickly after the race!

Eldona Avenue –
Spectacular. No issues. A ton of fun. Lot of money raised for good causes.

Almost all our neighbors as well as us had family or friends running. Lots of cars for each house but no problems. Just a great event.

Worcester Court –
Once again, a lack of communication from the Falmouth Police Department.

From approximately 10:45 am to 12:45 am on Sunday Worcester Ave and Worcester Ct South to North toward rt 28 were blocked by standing traffic, allowing no egress or access for residents along that section of highway. Ambulances had to go the wrong way on Worcester Ave and Worcester Ct.

There was NO notice given that this would occur.

This was similar the 4th of July traffic snarl. Only there could have been serious injuries.

Jericho Path –
I thought the road race was fantastic!!!! I commend all of the people involved for once again organizing a wonderful event. I would not change a thing!! Congratulations to all and I look forward to next year!

Crescent Avenue –
From what I observed, crowd control was excellent. Our police chief and his officers have done a great job with the road race and fireworks.

There was motorcyclist flying around before and after. But that’s become a normal thing in the Heights.

Grand Avenue –
I am consistently impressed how the Road Race Committee is able to put on this huge event and then very quickly after, it is all cleaned up like nothing happened!

Worcester Court –
The town does a tremendous job all in all.
We noticed the roads seemed to be opened up much earlier especially near Jericho Path; and the Baptist church; they were actually open while race was still going on. this is a bit problematic for those walking.

Also noticed no enforcement along the route of people staying out of the way of runners inside the white solid lines. Feel like road enforcement was a bit better in previous years.

Would also like to have seen a posting about the flag raising and timing…could not find it anywhere.

Lastly, wish the EXPO would open earlier on Saturday morning to coincide with the fun run – does not open until 1000; and if you are there with children or grandchildren waiting around for another hour can be tedious.

Worcester Avenue –
Thank you to all the volunteers and people who helped make the day a success. The new set up went very well and I think helped move things along.

Grand Avenue –
The preparation, execution and after race clean up all went smoothly.
All worker, volunteers and runners were respectful of our property and people.

No incidents or problem. Well done by all.

Worcester Avenue-
This year was very well run and very organized. It was one of the best years since I have been here (10 years).

Thank you I really do not have much to offer other than praise!!!!

Young Road –
Considering the size and magnitude of this event which is spread over several days and miles, I think it is amazing how well it is handled. The Road Race team members are experienced and work hard at making this event come together in every aspect….. a job well done and everyone should be proud…I know I am.

I have run it 20+ times, volunteer every year and am proud to be part of it.

Worcester Court –
Tuesday morning and still dismantling structures on ballpark. Residents have no access. Also bike racks still in Finish Line Garden and on walkway!

Central Park Court –
Another well run event. Thank you to organizers, participants, volunteers, and spectators.

Lake Leaman Road –
No Concerns.

Little Rock Avenue –
I thought the road race was well done and I live in the middle of it, on Little Rock Ave.

I do have a concern about the Island Queen traffic, which is growing leaps and bounds. Drop off cars, park on the sidewalks, buses are cutting onto Little Rock and Jericho. Keep an eye on this area, it is very overcrowded and needs future insight.

Worcester Court –
One safety issue is parking on both sides of streets in the Heights, Raymond St. from Jericho Path heading north was barely passable for a small car, a fire truck or ambulance would have been unable to reach houses for about 1500 feet. Other narrow winding streets had similar problems. Parking should be limited to one side only.

Worcester Ct. was gridlocked until around noon after the race, with cars trying to go both north and south. Ambulances and police cars were unable to get north towards the Hospital until cars pulled into driveways and lawns causing delays in potentially life-threatening situations.

Worcester Ct. should be one lane north until well after the race. This would also give more room to the pedestrians leaving the finish line area heading towards Davis Straits, currently they try to walk in the road between the cars.

In general, the Race has grown too large and should be reduced in size. Falmouth can only safely handle a significantly smaller group.
Set up in the ballpark started Wednesday before the Race and kept soccer and baseball groups from using the facility.

Falmouth Heights Road –
The race does all of Falmouth proud. I have the great fortune to live right around the corner from the 6 mile marker and 3/10th of a mile from the finish line. In addition, I walk along Deacon St and up over and down The Heights every morning.

I watched the army of people and materials required to prepare for an event of this size and was impressed with their organization and efficiency.

Race day itself was smooth and fun for all involved, watched over by a multitude of officials, volunteers, medical staff and police. Within three hours of the end, the streets were clean and life had returned to normal.

Very impressive and I didn’t see one single are that might have been improved. Well done all!

Falmouth Heights Road –
Love the road race always enjoyable. Less runners would be great. The problem not only this year are the people walking back after running using the street while there are runners trying to complete their race!

My suggestion is to have another route to walk and not return on Falmouth Heights Rd.

The other issue are the spectators pushing carriages, riding bikes and walking dogs on the Heights Road while race is happening . No consideration of others.

Raymond Street –
My one concern is traffic on Worcester Court. The email we received stated Worcester Court would be closed to vehicles at the intersection of Jericho Path from 8:00 AM until 11:00 AM. This did not happen. It is not safe to have vehicles travel on this road when hundreds of people are walking in the street. For safety reasons the road should only be open for pedestrians and emergency vehicles.
