Falmouth Patrolman Jake Meunier came before the Beach Committee this week to discuss the department’s efforts during the busy July 4th weekend.

He said no major problems were encountered during the holiday and only one arrest was made on Old Silver Beach for disorderly conduct.

Even clearing out the parking lot at Falmouth Heights Beach before the fireworks was not a problem, he told the committee.

“When people came to their cars, they thanked us for keeping everybody safe,” committee chairwoman Barbara P. Schneider said.

The police had parked a cruiser with its lights flashing at the lot. The officer asked people to move their cars before 2:30 PM to avoid being ticketed and towed.

“If you told me that every single vehicle would move out of there,” said Schneider, “ I would have never believed you. It was incredible.”

He said that police had drones in the air assisting with patrolling the Heights that evening.

This year, police opted for reflective cross straps on their uniforms for the holiday, instead of neon detail shirts. The Beach Committee members said they felt the neon shirts were more visible than the cross straps.

“I would say neon was better,” said committee member Heather Burke.

Schneider thanked the department for all their help.
