Falmouth Heights Road

Great job.  No issues.

Wyoming Avenue

The road race is always such a great event each year.  We stand at the top of the hill before the finish line.

This year we noticed there were not enough medics at this location (Wyoming Ave.)  The medics did an excellent job, but too many went down at once and it was horrifying to watch.

Also, in previous years waters had been handed out shortly after the runner crossed the finish line.  This year, our runners weren’t happy that water was not available until they got to the field, and it was warm.

Otherwise, your management and organization of the event is excellent and appreciated.

Worcester Court

As usual the road closures along Worcester Ct are totally in-effective resulting in parking issues, delayed ambulances and traffic jams. How many years will it take to figure this out? Also routing runners through corrals in the sun causing many to pass out was an extremely bad change.

Worcester Court

Again I applaud all the efforts for such a well organized and enjoyable road race experience. My only comment and suggestion is we need to place barriers at the corner of Worcester Court and Jericho Path . Despite the signage of No parking either side there were a number of vehicles parked on the side. The issue was the inability of a number of ambulances to advance on Worcester Court at the end of the race.

Eldona Avenue

Once again an outstanding event. Well run. Well done. Thoroughly enjoyed it rooting on friends in the race.

Eldona Avenue

Terrific from start to finish! We loved receiving the postcard pre-race to confirm the logistics, it helped with spectators (friends) coming into the area. Also providing availability to ‘No Parking’ signs is a tremendous addition.

Can’t give enough praise to the DPW and the Beach Committee, cleanup was efficient and the beach before and after looks terrific.

Extremely well run-kudos to all involved!

Nantucket Avenue

This was the worst road race ever my family has experienced we have lived for 40 or more years this property is the corner property to Indiana Avenue and Nantucket Avenue, I had emergency vehicles. Over 5 times drove over the middle of my property along with the many bystanders with baby carriages, bicycles, wagons with Chairs etc.

Deacons Avenue

Efficient clean up and minimal disruption on Deacons Ave

4 Miami Avenue

Outstanding on all counts except one…way to many cars were allowed in our area. The police said roads would be closed by 8:00am, but no way was that carried out. After the race I need to leave the area, it took 1 hour to reach 28 by stop and shop. Ambulances could not navigate into the Heights. Would one us was having an emergency medical or fire. Would be dead!  Shame on the police for not following through.

Johnson Street

Our family runs the race every year, and we found this year’s event to be well organized. Runner communication was excellent, via email, social media, and the RTRT.me app. The postcard outlining road closures that we received in the mail was a nice touch.

We were grateful that the race and FHMNA provided  formal “No Parking” signs. We planned to put our signs out early Sunday morning (around 5 AM); however, when we returned home from dinner on Saturday evening, we found that someone had already parked a car in front of our house/on our front lawn. This car remained until around 12:30 PM on Sunday, after the race was over. Additionally, after we left for the race on Sunday morning, a full-sized transit van towing a trailer also parked along our lawn, just behind the sign. Ironically, this was the worst year for us with people parking on our lawn in at least 10 years.

People parked on our road seemed very frustrated trying to leave the neighborhood, as traffic was at a standstill on Lake Leaman Road and Jericho Path for a very long time. Some unkind things were said to my children, who were playing in the front yard and at our basketball hoop which faces the road (we were outside and they were supervised).

Despite the parking/traffic frustration, we had a wonderful day on Sunday! Kudos to the FRR team for another world-class event!

Lucerne Avenue

Maybe not the kind of comment you expect, but I was very disappointed that the race bibs had a busy background with low contrast pale colors that made it impossible to find runners by their number.

I had a race tracking app on my phone loaded with the numbers of a few runners planning to get pictures of all of them.

Some of these runners I didn’t know but I was going to try to get pictures of them as a favor to others. However I could only find the runners I knew using face recognition because the bibs were too hard to read to pick out runners in the crowd.

Montauk Street

Overall, I thought the event went very well. I was at the water tables at the finish line and at one point all of the runners had to stop because of the congestion going to the field. I’ve never seen that happen and it was very confusing for the runners.

Miami Avenue

As a runner on Sunday, the event was extremely well organized and executed.  Within 24 hours the course, beaches, roads, trash, and our ball field were back to normal.

The one overwhelming issue I observed was the car/traffic/parking congestion throughout the heights. Cars parked along both sides of our small streets made it unsafe, impassable, and dangerous. When race ended cars leaving hit gridlock throughout the heights for hours.

In my opinion, the heights should be closed off to cars.  Police could be stationed at several locations entering the heights to ensure safety.

Crescent Avenue

The FRR is a good family orientated event. It is “run” well. Must be great for Shipwreck’s and the Wharf’s businesses.  The event cleans up well after.

Sycamore Avenue

I volunteered with the FRR team at the finish line area in the Heights.  Although I was focused on medical emergencies, I noticed a couple of things:

  1. (Good) The Indiana Ave and Nantucket St areas seemed cleaner after the race, maybe due to the barricades along the sides keeping people on the streets
  1. (Less Good) The Crescent Ave area was not kept for vehicles, but became the outlet for the people leaving the ballfield.  Two things resulted: a mass of people walking through the neighborhood streets there, and no ability for us to get ambulances in to help people in the area.
  1. The setup for the event started earlier this year, so there was some disruption to the beach and park areas, but not too bad.  The cleanup was shockingly fast, and everything seemed normal by the end of Sunday.

I wanted to give a strong compliment to the crew from Cavossa – I watched as they worked for hours literally picking up every piece of paper on the ground in the area and emptying and removing the dozens (hundreds?) of trash bins.  They are the ones who returned the area to its pristine appearance within hours.

It was a good event again this year- although very hot and humid.

Grand Avenue

I think once again the Road Race committee, along with the support from the many town entities pulled off another amazing Road Race weekend!  It was safe, enjoyable and very clean! Well done!

Pennsylvania Court

Race was done very well, parking was the problem. People parked everywhere, tried to go to planet fitness even the back of the building was a mess could not get in or out, people park any place and did not care and had no consideration of others.   PS Love the race.

Central Park Court

Another great job by the road race crew. Neighborhood was spotless less than 24 hours after the event.

A suggestion for improvement: do not allow vehicles, except for emergency services, into the Heights from early morning to afternoon. Vehicles flooded the neighborhood once again this year and drivers parked on lawns, etc. despite no -parking signs.  There was gridlock along Central Park Court -in both directions- and runners talked about crushing congestion at the finish line and ball field and a precarious walk back breathing in exhaust.

Having said all that, the road race is a highlight of the summer season in Falmouth and a wonderful opportunity to showcase  the town’s many assets. Road race organizers and volunteers have much to be proud of and are much appreciated.

Worcester Court

  1. One of the largest fields. Too many people in too small a space
  1. taking of ball field and surrounding areas almost a full week prior to the actual race.
  1. forcing the Men’s Club organization to end their activities with children earlier than anticipated
  1. Traffic still a major issue on Worcester Ct which continues to obstruct the progress of ambulances responding to medical emergencies.
  1. Nothing was done to Finish Line Garden to clean it up or prune anything prior to or following the race.
  1. No parking signs seemed to help on Worcester Avenue which is imperative for traffic flow and safety
  1. The condition of the ball field and soccer areas used by residents is appalling. Between large crowds, trucks, toilets, and little rain  it is a mess
  1. I talked with some of the traffic staff during and after the race and found they were quite concerned with the size of the crowd and the crowds blatant disregard for listening to instructions getting out of the way of ambulances and police vehicles. They told me they were going to bring this up to both Falmouth Police and Road Race Committee

Worcester Court

As always, the set up and disassembling done by the rental company was great. Worcester Court and Worcester Ave should be closed when the race starts and reopened close to the end of the race.  Traffic sits on both sides of the street making it very difficult for ambulances to get through … every year.

Hudson Street

My out-of-town family members used to sign up for the lottery and usually/often got in. It now appears that some 220 “charities“ many of which have little to do with Falmouth (eg, Hopkinson Emergency Fund, Franklin Food Pantry) use up 4300+ of the slots.  This prevents many out of town runners who just want to run in this race from participating unless they pay a “bribe” to a charity.  Allow a few major charities to participate but stop these other very questionable organizations.   I’m not really a Scrooge, I give to charities I choose but don’t expect anything in return.

Worcester Avenue

I once again believe the race was very well run and everyone did a great job.

A couple comments: Falmouth DPW did a great job getting the surrounding area ready, but I would ask if we could start a little later in the morning doing landscaping work on Worcester Ave. Friday they were out about 5:20 am weed wacking the courtyard, maybe 6am? or maybe just a heads up and notification to the neighbors on Worcester Ave/Crt when work will be taking place ?

Runners in the family stated it was very congested finishing the race and trying to enter the tents in the ball field. Many of the runners I know avoided the area due to congestion.

Thanks to everyone.
