Assistant Town Manager Peter Johnson-Staub mentioned that there was media coverage that SouthCoast Wind (SCW) received a permit from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) which prompted the town to review where Falmouth stands with this project. He said that the town has had “no active conversations with SouthCoast Wind for the better part of 2 years now”. SCW has shifted their attention to their first phase at Brayton Point and the town has heard from SCW that they plan their second phase to go to Brayton Point as well.
There is still a “variant” for Falmouth for phase two. However, there has been no permitting for that phase.
Mr. Johnson-Staub has “no insight as to what the recent Trump decision means”. He referenced the Falmouth Enterprise article [of Friday 1/24/25] that noted most of the federal permits have been received, but said there may still be some lesser thresholds to cross.
He did check the SCW website which previously contained “misleading information that implied that the town of Falmouth was actively supporting the project, which is simply not the case”. SCW has updated the website which no longer has misleading statements about “the town actively supporting the project or receiving revenue as a result of the project.”
Select Board Member Robert Mascali said that SCW cut the funding for the Cape Cod Marathon which is a “telling indication”.
